These pre-decimal coins are the size of an American half dollar. There were 12 pennies in a shilling, 20 shillings to a pound sterling.
These large pennies were demonitized and no longer in circulation when the UK went to the decimal system over 50 years ago.
The 1912 penny is from the Heaton mint.
