A Very Rare NGC Certified Elizabeth I Silver Pattern Pledge Penny Dated 1601
Description
Offered here is the only known NGC certified Elizabeth I silver pattern pledge penny dated 1601.  The obverse (front) depicts a crowned bust of the Queen in ornate dress with ruff and jewels, probably from dies by Charles Anthony, chief graver of the mint and seals, with the words THE PLEDGE OF.  The reverse (back) depicts a crowned Elizabeth monogram, date and pellet either side of crown, beaded circle around the whole and the words A PENNY.   The edge plain.  This coin is certified and graded by NGC as Very Fine DETAILS.  It is noted as being holed, it one time being used as jewelry.  While NGC indicates this as being cast, the example in the collection of the British Museum reflects their uncertainty of it either being cast or stuck.  Refer here:  https://www.britishmuseum.org/collection/object/C_E-5016
