    Description

1547 Scotland Penny Infant Mary Queen of Scots VERY RARE.
Heres a very rare coin. 1547 Scotland Mary Queen of Scots Penny NGC VF20. S5440. Obverse depicts a facing portrait of the infant Queen, reverse a long cross with crowns surrounding. Made of Billon, with approximately 8.33% silver, this type is rarely encountered, and usually come in very low grade; VF20 is actually a nice grade for this type. This example has full legends, which is tough to find. We can find very few of these to ever sell- one around the same grade but with some legends missing in 2013 at Baldwins for around ,150 including buyers fee, and another with a slightly different portrait for around ,700 in 2015. English/Scottish/Irish coinage has seen strong prices in recent years, and one can ponder if this trend will continue.
